Another beautiful lookout point in New Zealand! Signal hill lookout located in the city of Dunedin is a free lookout point with a stunning view. The lookouts point is just a short drive from the city center and also a great place for photo opportunities. The place is breezy and a perfect spot to relax and take a break from the long drives. Highly recommended to everyone!
Hiking up to this place must've been so much fun. But we drive all the way up. There's not plenty of parking spaces so be mindful where you park. The view is nice, I was there in late morning. The camera panorama mode will become handy here.
This was stunning. I suggest taking a jacket the wind was quite strong. It is a lovely place to go to and have a look over all of Dunedin.
Not bad views of Dunedin and the peninsula. Some trees in the way but that's all good. Take your time driving back down as the road is narrow in some spots and the blind curves may hide oncoming traffic/cyclists/pedestrians/and dogs????
Signal Hill Lookout has panoramic views of Dunedin and the Otago Peninsula. It is scenic drive to the top of Signal Hill. There is plenty of parking at the top and an extensive lookout area. There is a large monument with 2 bronze statues commemorating New Zealand Centennial. The summit of the hill is 329 metres and is capped by a monument to the New Zealand Centennial of 1940, a large structure including two large bronze figures representing "History" and "The Thread of Life" designed by F. W. Sturrock and F. W. Staub. Although commissioned for the centenary of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, the monument was not constructed until the 1950s, due to World War II. A large stone from Edinburgh in Scotland is also incorporated in the monument, symbolising the ties between Dunedin and its sister city. The monument is surrounded by a scenic reserve of 180 hectares. The reserve, located only five kilometres from central Dunedin, is a popular site for both locals and visitors. Signal Hill Lookout is The 4th Top rated Tourist Attraction in Dunedin.
